Training data (prompts and completions)

Training data is what shapes how your AI responds. Your training data is made up of 'prompts' (what a user says) and 'completions' (how the AI replies). The better this data reflects your voice and approach, the better your AI will perform in real conversations.

This guide explains how it works and how to create training data that helps your AI sound like you and deliver real value to your clients.

What are prompts and completions?

Prompts and completions are the two core parts of an exchange in a conversation with an AI.

  • Prompt = The text someone writes to your AI is called the 'prompt'. This could be anything, but usually, it's a question, greeting or statement. Or it could be their answer to your AI's question.
  • Completion = The text your AI responds with is called a 'completion'. The response will be an answer, statement and/or another question.

Your AI combines the prompts and completions in your training data with its other training, settings and language capabilities to create natural-flowing conversations, sharing your expertise, in your communication style.

Remember: Your AI is not a chatbot, it's a conversational AI coach. Chatbots follow pre-programmed scripts, can only respond to specific keywords and give robotic replies. A conversational AI uses advanced language models to understand context and meaning to create natural dialogue and give unique personalised responses 🙂

Creating prompts and completions

There are several ways to create prompts and completions for your AI.

Upload text files in knowledge upload and they will be turned into prompts and completions for you.

 Directly upload a CSV file of prepared prompts and completions to your training data. You can also manually add and edit these. ℹī¸
In fine-tuning In fine-tuning, you can have chats with your AI, and then rate and edit its responses. Toggle on fine-tuning history to see the prompts and completions added by this method ℹī¸
Within client chats When reviewing your client chat transcripts, you can click to add a prompt and completion pair to your data, making any required edits before saving ℹī¸

Note: Prompt and completion pairs can be up to 2,000 characters in total. If you want your AI to have more knowledge on a topic, break the information into multiple prompts and completions.
